Mitchell's Soul Food

He guys, I'm back.  Last week my wife and I were deciding on where we should have dinner.  With a big smile on her face she said, "Let's have some soul food."  All I did was smile.  She search on her Iphone using the google app and found, "Mitchell's Soul Food"; 617A Vanderbilt Ave (between St. Marks Ave and Bergen St) Brooklyn, NY 11238.  So we drove over there.  Stepping in to Mitchell's was exciting.  We were all hungry and ready to chow down.  The place was small with a nice dining area.  We sat right down and looked at the menu.  They had barbeque chicken, ribs, fried chicken, fried catfish, oxtail, and I can go on.  What I compare soul food to is the dinner or they say "supper" on the show, "Little House on the Prairie" and I remember them eating golden fried chicken, hmmmmm so I ordered half fried chicken with okra and tomato with potato salad and my wife ordered short ribs and collard greens and our daughter ordered mac and cheese.  All entrees come wth 2 sides and corn, wheat, or white bread.  When dinner was ready, bell going off in my head lol, we sat patiently for the waiter to place our food.  When I saw that fried chicken, I bit into it like it was the first meal I had in 2 days.  It's like being really hungry but peacefully devouring the food and enjoying every single flavorful bite.   The sides complimented the chicken really well.  My wife was speechless.  She just kept chewing and enjoyed her meal and our daughter who is so hyper and hates to be in one place actually sat down and enjoyed her mac and cheese until she finished her plate.  Over all the service was great, atmosphere was pleasing and the food...well, exactly what "soul food" is - a soothing, comfort food.

Cafe Du Soleil

Hi I'm Vernnie and I decided to write a little something about the places I will be visiting, eating at and movies/show/plays I will be watching in NYC or whatever other states I visit in the near future.  The first place I want to talk about is Cafe Du Soleil located here; 2723 Broadway (between 104th St & 105th St) New YorkNY 10025.  Stepping in to this place you can smell the the different kinds of dishes they serve.  Right away my hunger intensified!  My family were there with me and we were all celebrating my sis, April's bday who picked this place.  When I finally got to sit down and look at the menu my eye's caught site of Foie De Veau Auc Echallotes.  That's calves liver with shallots, red wine sauce and sauteed spinach.  This dish was so delicious.  The liver was tender, juicy and sweet.  The flavors my mouth tasted was definitely the first.  I felt like the food critic in the movie, "Ratatouille."  For some reason I thought about the spaghetti I had when I was seven yrs old that my grandmother made for us when we arrived here to NYC for the first time from the Philippines.  I felt warm, happy and content and those were the same feelings I was having while eating this dish.  The sauteed spinach was perfect with the calves liver.  The dish was full flavored and rightfully portioned.  Also, I had the best french fries I ever had over there.  They fried it with garlic and shallots.  Great taste and flavor!  Excuse my first blog.  I will have more for you soon.  The key is, Stepping In.  That's the only way you will ever know.  I added the link to the Cafe Du Soleil website if you would like to check them out.
